Mary, I know that feeling, usually because I'm chatting with people in the States 'til the early hours, so get up late. Bad when I have an early appointment though!! I had never really thought about the browser language codes, and on reflection I had always assumed that they would be in UTF-8, guess that my Firefox isn't though. I might just dig into this a bit further.
