What I do is create a Basic source, ',Smith, Joe about William Johnson R02341'. If Joe is in my DB, his RIN goes there too. Then I attach the document. Notice that a comma is in front of the name. That way, all letters, e-mails stay together. All publications, have a period. The only other category is place, with the place 'big to little'.Example: NRG, ST, Stadsbygd, Rissen 1900 Census Tøndel Øvre. This makes it easier to keep track of stuff. Since my letters/e-mails are the smallest of the groups, I can scroll through them by themselves, not interrmixed with books nor places, which inherently sort themselves. Also, for Source names I abbreviate, for the title use full names. Rich in LA CA --- On Sun, 6/20/10, JMB <[email protected]> wrote:
From: JMB <[email protected]> Subject: [LegacyUG] Storing details of contacts To: [email protected] Date: Sunday, June 20, 2010, 9:56 AM When I make a contact through Ancestry, GenesReunited etc I usually paste the message into the Notes for the Individual in my tree that the contact asked about (or I originated to query about). It can get difficult to remember who has contacted me about who. I have thought of starting to use ToDo as a way of storing the information because they can all be listed. What I would really like is some sort of note that can be attached to all the ancestors of an Individual so I could quickly see any contacts who have the common ancestor. I would need to be able to edit this so I could removed some Individuals and add to others if I got further information.
