Backing up to gedcom loses: 1. SourceWriter formatting 2. History List 3. Bookmarks 4. Quick Bookmarks
and who knows what else. Backups, to preserve your Family File in the format you have it in, should always be done by going to File > Backup Family File. Exporting to gedcom should only be done if you want to open the Family File in another genealogy program. Dave, contact [email protected] about your problem.
