I have a combination of file types. PDF files can take up just as much space as jpg, if not more. You can have multiple pages in a pdf file. That can be both an advantage and disadvantage. My pdf files open almost as quickly as the jpg and other image types. A number of things could influence how quickly the files open, though. Also, you don't get the cute little thumbnail images with pdf files, just the file icon when attached to a source.
