If you use the new SourceWriter system you will be guided as to just what to include and what to omit. Of course, you don't *have* to fill in every field, or even put in a field exactly what it's fieldname suggests, but you will find the templates very helpful. > At this stage I do not intend to have a web page I would just like to go > through my tree and scan all my sources and get a system running that is a > bit more logical than what I have at the moment. A combination of both, and also including at least one other document format (.doc). Your first consideration will be which is the most suitable format for the item concerned, however there is a major difference between how Legacy handles "pictures" as opposed to "files" and you really need to bear this in mind. If you attach a .jpg or other picture format you will be able to open and view and do some *very limited* editing WITHIN Legacy; if you take your Legacy file somewhere else you will always be able to view your picture files as long as you have taken them also. But document files, such as .pdf and .doc are NOT opened within Legacy, but are opened in an external program such as Adobe Acrobat Reader or Microsoft Word or whichever program you use for that type of file. If you take your family file to another computer which doesn't have a suitable program, you will not be able to open these documents. Admittedly, that is not *very* likely to happen, but it might. Also, pictures attached to Sources can be viewed in Reports (not always very satisfactorily) but if you wish to include .pdf or .doc or other format files you will need to print them out separately from their native program. -- Jenny M Benson Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergr...@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp To unsubscribe: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp
