You're right!  It works!  Thank you!  I did just like you said, right-clicked 
on the one of the headers (Birth Place, etc.), then clicked on "Save" and I was 
able to name it.  I named mine "My Column View" and existed the program and 
YES, my columns were saved.  What's so neat is that I could have several saved 
favorites and just right-click a header to change the view.  Thanks so much for 
this great tip.

    As for your comments about the Index list... You're perfectly correct.
    That's what to do if you want to keep a particular order and size of
    columns. The only difficulty with it is, you have to keep reloading your
    favourite layout each time you run Legacy.

  That is precisely my point - if I Customize the "favourite layout" stays and 
reopens the same way each time I open Legacy.
