Thank you, Paul. You are correct that IrfanView does not write EXIF information. I opened my file in Adobe Elements and then saved it. Apparently it must save the IPTC caption information in the EXIF Description field as well. Now when I add the picture into Legacy, I get the notification about the picture containing embedded comments and would I like to import them into the description field. Thanks so much for your assistance!

It uses the EXIF field 'Description'. I believe that IfranView allows you to view, but not update EXIF tags. The only application that I know (although I am sure others exist) that lets you edit the EXIF tags is EXIFTool (best when paired with EXIFGUI for a readable interface). I'm not sure whether others like Adobe Photoshop, Picasa etc. support this. However, from my limited knowledge in this area, it appears there is an increasing trend towards using "XMP tags" at least for photo identification. There are others who will probably chime in with more specific recommendations. I have been reading the archives and several posts mention that the IPTC Caption field will automatically import into the Description field when attaching a photo to an individual. I am not finding that the case. Is there an option somewhere within Legacy that must be set for this to happen? I have looked and cannot find one. Thanks in advance for your help.
