Hi Keith

Another option for setting up a virtual Windows environment on your Ubuntu is
VirtualBox (www.virtualbox.org), previously part of Sun and now an Oracle
product. This is totally free and very powerful. I use it in many situations
for desktop virtualisation tasks and it runs on several hosts. You could easily
set up an XP machine under your Ubuntu to run Legacy. A powerful feature of
VirtualBox is seamless operation where after you have run the virtual XP and
loaded Legacy you can switch to seamless mode and the Legacy window appears in
the Ubuntu desktop without the XP background as if it were running directly on
Ubuntu. Maybe just a cosmetic thing but it can make the usability factor better.

Regards
Mark

Hi Keith,
I run WinXP in a Parallels 4 virtual machine, Legacy works just fine this way.
I don't know much about VMware, I tried a demo copy years back and didn't like
it. A virtual machine would give you the security you want while using your
copy of WinXP.

Based on the following post by Sherry in Legacy Family Tree Technical Support,
perhaps you could install your Legacy version 7 on both your laptop and desktop
machine and forget about version 6:

I would suggest you update your version 7 to the latest available to minimize
potential problems with bugs in earlier versions. Version 7.5 is to be released
on 17 Jan 2011.
