Many public libraries have access to the library edition of Ancestry, as well as other genealogy databases such as those published by ProQuest. I've particularly found HeritageQuest to be of great value as I can access it with my library card from home for free. My local library also provides access to American Ancestors (formerly New England Ancestors).
