James,

I looked at my data again, and found most (but not all) of the people in my
file had a name (e.g. Paul Gray) and a sort string (e.g. Gray, Paul) in the
address associated with their individual record. Nothing else like street,
city, province. I never input this, not sure how it got there, but it's there
nonetheless. I had been focussing on those few records where I had addresses
related to events, never thought of looking at individuals.

It's turning out to be a bit of a non issue, because I am importing into
FTM2009 and it doesn't seem to handle the ADDR tag very well anyway, as it
doesn't have the 'full address' that Legacy has (or at least I couldn't find
it).

So, I will take your suggestion about excluding the address information from
the export, and manually input the few that I have. And I'll reconsider putting
hospital names, cemetery names and their addresses into the location field. (No
need to hash out the pros and cons of this, it's been covered in detail before).

Thanks,

Paul Gray

Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Incorrect Extra GEDCOM Tags

Are you sure it's a problem with Living people, or perhaps its with
people you've added address information for (which is likely just
living people, right?). At any rate, when exporting your GEDCOM,
there's a customize button in the lower right. From there you can
check the box to EXCLUDE address information.
