James, Well, as always when you look at these things more, more information comes to light. It looks like it isn't a case of living vs. dead, but simply a case that the 'address record' with just a name is on some individuals and not others. I did the following test.
Added a totally new individual. Exported GEDCOM, ADDR with name wasn't there. Went into that individual, clicked on the individual's 'add or edit address information' (second icon to right of surname). Individuals name had defaulted into Name field, and also in sort string field as Surname, Given name. Clicked Cancel. Exported a second GEDCOM, ADDR with name still wasn't there. Repeated previous step, except I clicked 'Save' rather than 'Cancel. Exported to a third GEDCOM, and the ADDR field with name was there. Clearly, I wrote some data on the third step that I hadn't previously, and that's what showed up in the third GEDCOM. Somehow that data (address record with just a name) was written on many of my records by some process on Legacy in the past, because I certainly had not been into the address records on all these individuals. Perhaps it happened when I imported the records originally from a GEDCOM. Anyway, since I have few real address records I will do as I said before and exclude addresses from the export. It's a bit of a moot point when doing the export for FTM, as FTM doesn't really have 'address records' and doesn't have a proper place to put them anyway (they just shove them into a fact). But, a good learning experience nonetheless....... However... If you've not entered addresses for any individuals, then it should be a problem for every individual - not just living ones. Or, perhaps Legacy has some smarts to only prepopulate the address names for living people ?!?!?! Odd! Does 'regular expressions' mean anything to you? If so, you could always purge unwanted bits or just massage the data in the GEDCOM before adding to FTM.
