Charles, I agree with you. I use these sources as leads. And, as you stated,
I have broken through a number of brick walls with these resources. I would
never have found these people had it not been for the LDS sites, Family
Trees on Ancestry, etc. I prove everything myself before information is
added to my database.

I too have been following this thread for a while. If memory serves me
correctly, the Legacy Training CD's support what Cynthia stated below. The
plethora of information available to us such as family group sheets on LDS,
Ancestry, etc. should be viewed as nothing more than "Clues or Leads" as to
where we should focus further research. Therefore, I would think that the
burden of "Proof" is upon the individual researcher utilizing that
information.

Actually, one of the IGI records helped me to break through a brick wall
that I had been struggling with for years. Although the record was not 100%
accurate, it did redirect my research to areas that I had previously not
thought of and, as a result, was subsequently able to prove the information.

I have been watching this for a while now. And quite frankly I disagree.
Yes, the family group sheets on LDS and on Ancestry is up to the person who
is research, weather they accept what they see is fact or fiction, however,
when someone submits their family tree, to whatever site it may be, there is
some truth in it, but, for the one researching it, you need to follow
through and see if it is fact not fiction. Don’t expect someone that has
done the research before to be 100% accurate. Check for yourself if it is
true or not. I have for years look at online trees, but if I can’t follow
it I do not add it to my tree. But it is a good source as far as breaking
down a brick wall if you can follow to prove that the information is
correct. For example, if grandma tells you her aunts middle name is Esques
or whatever, if you can’t prove it in a document don’t put it in your tree.
