Kevin: It's unclear what you mean by "use," but if you're asking how they can be entered in the location field, I show them with the official name of the colony in the country position: Hingham, Suffolk County, Massachusetts Bay Colony. (I don't care for the look of the extra placeholder commas that many Legacy users prefer for various reasons.) Prior to the Revolution the English Crown was the common ruling body for the colonies but of course they weren't *in* England. Some people add "British North America" to differentiate from French and Spanish colonies and pinpoint the location but this becomes repetitive and cumbersome in reports--and doesn't represent a true country. I believe most readers recognize the names of the colonies when written in full so no further identification is needed.
This form will probably cause complications with mapping programs or the GeoLocation database, so what you enter may depend on how you intend to use Legacy.
