Kevin,
First I have a standard which I use of city,county/shire,state/province,country
I have this set for all locations that I use and I have the county verification
turned on so that it alerts me to the problem. When I have a location that is
preUSA I geocode the present location ex. Plymouth,Plymouth,Massachusetts,USA
(I have all my locations without spaces) which is geocoded as N415730 W0704004.
I then make a new location of Plymouth,,New Plymouth Colony,USA(if you don’t
create a new country) then edit the place and I add the Lat and Long for the
current location and put in the notes field the name changes for the county or
city and dates, and then I put a check mark in the “Verified” field. With a
check mark in the Verified field I know that that location is correct for the
time frame and I won’t accidently delete or merge that location. I may also add
an old map image to the media. Another thing I have set up is to create a tag
for bad locations or other problems (I use tag 9) and then I create a list of
all individuals with error problems and give them that tag so when I want to
correct the errors I just show that tag number and then I can go through those
individuals and work on their problems.
Hope this helps,
Russ Strong

How do you use the location for pre-USA time such as 13 colonies and
Massachutes Bay Colony, since my trees go that far back

thanks
