MLA = http://www.mla.org/style
So my notes might include something like

Task: Scan indexes for Jane Doe - 1 Jan 2011
N/A [Jones], [Smith], [Ross]
Marriage [White]
Probate [Anserchin]

I make Individual TODO's, making use of categories and descriptions,
and use the clipboard as much as possible. I've not played with
filtering much. I think maybe just to toggle open / closed.

At any rate, if you have a procedure you find useful, I'd be
interested in hearing more about it.
Thanks,
