I am afraid this one has got me Dave!

With you saying a"new machine" in your first post, I took it to mean a new
PC, so now I am even more at a loss.

I very rarely import a GEDCOM so I am not sure how the process ends, but I
do vaguely remember having to use cancel at least once.

Thanks for your efforts Ron.

No backup, no USB, etc.
I just added a new drive to my computer and installed Win7 on it.
Since the old drive was still in the system I just copied fdb from the old
drive to the new c: drive after installing Legacy.

I do use IDrive to backup my files to the Internet.
As another test I downloaded the most recent backup from IDrive and tried
that. The result was the same.

I believe all drives are NTFS.

No, I'm not using a gedcom to import although I'm trying that to see if I
can get something to work. I typically have used export gedcom with the
convert to html option for import to TNG and that has always worked great
too. But since I don't have TNG reinstalled yet I haven't tried that. But I
was going to try the same export option and reimport to Legacy to see if
that helps.

But I'm having a problem there right now too. I exported "all", UTF-8,
"Convert formatting codes to HTML". When importing back it appears to import
all of the file (# of people, families, etc.) but the importing dialog box
never goes away. It looks like it's complete but but there's no "complete",
"done", etc. button, only "Cancel".

Dave,

I’m afraid that I am not totally clear here – are you copying the .fdb file
(or back-up) to a USB stick and then plugging that into your Win7 machine
and dragging the file from the stick to the C Drive?

I am at something of a loss if that is the case – it’s a process which I use
regularly without problem. I wonder if your USB stick may be using a
different File System ie.. FATS whilst your PCs are using NTFS, or some
other variation of the two, although I would not expect that to cause a
problem. If you are copying the .fdb file, have you tried copying the
back-up and using File>File Restore to get it into your Win7 installation? I
freely admit that I am on a fishing trip here!

Another thought which comes to mind, although a little more messy would be
to use Dropbox, or load it into the Cloud eg. MSN Skydrive (I think it’s
still around) and copy that way.

Like Dennis thought, when I got into bed I was wondering if you were using a
GEDCOM, but apparently not.

It was a simple copy. I just added a new drive for win7. And I still had
the old drive available. It was nothing more than copy from f: to c:
