It should not be necessary to shout in order to make a point, most people
have a reasonable standard of literacy and comprehension.

Nobody in this discussion has disagreed with what you have said, The factor
which Brian introduced is an additional facility for those who wish to use
it. If you do not use it then it will not affect you - do you see the html
in your notes etc when you haven't put them there?

What I want is to see text in BOLD when I have chosen Bold; in italics when
I have chosen italics, etc.

I do NOT want to see the coding symbols surrounding the text that I want to
be bolded, italicized, superscripted, etc.

The formatting codes are, obviously, entered so that the text may appear as
bolded, etc., when

I want to be able to see the text the way I would see it if I were using a
word processing program. In those, the text is bolded, etc., WITHOUT any
coding.

Ordinary users are people like me. We use word processing programs and are
used to seeing the text bolded, etc., when we want bolded text, etc. We are
not used to seeing the text we want bolded rather than "normal" surrounded
by formatting codes.

CE,

I would be grateful if what I have written is not misquoted nor misused. I
did not suggest that one should have to create a report in order to see what
what had been written. If one does not enter formatting codes into those
fields then they will not be visible will they?

Then make it an OPTION that web developers can choose if they so desire!

Not everyone is a web developer; some of us just want to be able to read
what we write!

Why do we have to create a report every time we want to do that?

Dave,

The change was made in the current version (or maybe the one before), but it
only affects the Event fields specified at the top, and not the Notes, The
point of this was that at some time in history the double chevron coding
used to be displayed in those fields but was dropped. It has now been
restored. Which ever way these specified fields work it makes no difference
to the final output (ie reports etc.) but does allows web developers to see
what they have done. Although it is not a facility which I use, meaning I do
not format these fields, I can see the value of it being displayed for those
who do.
