Firstly. The change was made in the most recent update to Legacy, that
is build 7.5.0.67 dated 18 Mar 2011.

Secondly here is how it behaves now:

The codes in Notes only appear in the list of events when you have the
person open for edit.

If you edit the Event the codes do not show in the Notes, instead the
text in the notes is displayed in bold, italic etc. The codes do show in
the Description, date and place fields when editing the event.

Since the OP could not send a screen shot to this list I was making a
guess and to where he was seeing the codes. If he is seeing the codes
when editing the event notes then perhaps the codes he has entered are
not being recognized by Legacy as format codes.
