Marion,

You are basically correct, copying your files to an external drive, or USB
stick etc. will work fine for your data and media files. Note that the media
files are a zipped file of the media locations as well as the images etc. and
need to be placed in the same location/path as on your original PC.

However, this is not the case for your settings, these are the .usr files which
you will find in the Legacy folder, ie. not in subfolders. You need to
separately copy these onto your external drive and then overwrite the ones
which Legacy would have created during the installation.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Export v Backups

Hi,

I have almost mastered the new Windows 7, have worked out the
Libraries and have downloaded Legacy 7.5 deluxe.

Now it is time to to copy all of my tree from the old computer to the
new one. I am assuming that as I am going from Legacy to Legacy that
the best way to do it is to backup to an external drive for the files
and the media and then import the backup to the new computer. One
small question, will this copy my personal settings doing it this way
or should I export the tree and then import it on to the new computer?
(I think my brain has become slightly addled with this new learning
curve!)
Advice please!!!
Marion

PS - obviously addled - in the first place sent this to Legacy instead of the
group and sent in rich text as well! Sorry
