I'm not sure there can be such a thing as "too many". I have 400 Master Sources (a little over 4,000 individuals) but I might well consider that someone with only 40 Sources had more than was necessary or advisable if that person was a splitter, not a lumper. One of the things I saw on Geoff's recent webinar which gave me food for thought was that he often had maybe 8 or 10 Citations for each data item - for example, if Joe Blow appeared on 5 different Censuses, Geoff would cite all 4 Censuses as a Source for his name. I have tended only to use one Citation of each "type" for each field, as long as the information was the same in subsequent examples. In other words, if I see from the Census that Mr & Mrs Doe had a daughter named Jane I cite that Censs for her name, then I might also cite a Birth Record and a Baptism record. I wouldn't cite the next 3 Censuses if they all also had her name as Jane. Now I am wondering if have too few Citations! -- Jenny M Benson Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com).
