Sherry, Are you confusing Windows Phone 7 with Windows 7? (Of course one is for devices like smartphones and one is for desktop type computers) Pocket Genealogist (the desktop side) works fine on Windows 7, but will not work on Windows Phone 7. (Windows Phone 7 is totally rewritten from Windows Mobile, no software written for Windows Mobile will work on Windows Phone 7) Windows 8 from what I've read is still desktop, not smartphone. It will have MORE changes with regards to touch screens so that Windows 8 works better on tablet style devices, but I don't think Windows 8 is going to replace the smartphone OS (Windows Phone). FYI, Windows 7 also has touch screen support, it's just they are making even more changes with Windows 8 so that it "works better". Also from what I've read, there is a 'classic' mode which turns off the new touchscreen changes and makes Windows 8 look like Windows 7. So to recap, I believe Windows Phone will continue to be the OS for smartphones and Windows 8 will be for desktops and tablets. It will be interesting to see if Windows 9 or some future version becomes a common OS across all devices. (Desktop, tablets, and Smartphones) Actually what Microsoft is doing isn't all that different than what Apple has done...
