During the time period I am looking at, that area was under German control. Technically I guess I should put German Empire or something but that just seems odd is some weird sort of way.

If it has 6 fields, then six fields it is - I think Legacy can handle up to 9 fields for locations. I guess that you are using commas to fit the US centric 4 field convention, and hence the geolocator, but what is the use of that if the location will not then map correctly? I note that you say "German Ancestors", as you know this is one of those places which alternated for years between Germany and France, indeed the example you give is when Alsace was in France - in which case your ancestors would be French and not German.. The Alsace place names have SIX fields not five. I just figured that out. Here is the correct one.... I am just now starting to work with my German ancestors. The area I working in is Alsace. I have done an internet search on the location I want and it has 5 parts, not 4. I know that you guys out there that do research in England deal with this so I want to make sure I do it correctly. My biggest concern is that it will mess up the search feature of Legacy. Here is my location Kühlendorf, Kreis Weissenburg, Niederrhein, Alsace, France It Geocodes just fine and it is right where it should be on the map. How does this effect the Legacy search feature when you have some locations with 5 fields.
