Default is long location names. You can set to short location names in Options > Customize > View by selecting "Use short location names on screen views"
You just need to remember when you add a location, go to the Master Location List and shorten up the short name! By default, the short name is the same as the long name. In the Master Location List, click on Options > Expand/Contract Location Parts to shorten (most) all of the location names.
