Legacy makes a separate entry into the database for every source detail. That is to say, if have one Master Source and an associated Detail copied to the clipboard, and you attach them to the birth, death, burial, and marriage. Your database will contain one link to the same Master Source, but four separate copies of the Source Detail. It makes no difference if the details are identical to each other, Legacy maintains a separate copy for each bit of data it is attached to.
This is why it is such a pain to updated details when you've discovered you forgot a bit of data, but have already pasted the citations around.
