I source census records as below: USA, HI, Honolulu, Honolulu, 1910, page number, line number. So if two groups are on the same page, they sort close to each other. This bypasses surname/maiden name problems. Rich in LA CA

Using a generic file name also helps in that regard. In other words, don't put any surnames or other specific details in the file name. I have been doing that for years and have had no problems with my system.
