Bingo!  That did the trick.  Thank you very much.

Of course, now I'm wondering if the original database is sound or not -
I had previously run the File Maintenance routines without any problem
indications.

I will do a bit more poking around before deciding whether to delete the
original database and proceed with the 'exported' one.

If you have any further suggestions, I would be most interested.
