If one is to select the wrong ratio then part of the desktop will get pushed 
off the screen of the monitor. I have seen this many times, when it happens the 
drivers will display the full width of the screen, but the extra in height is 
pushed off screen.

Also if the monitor has external hardware adjustments, then these may have been 
adjusted and the height again has been pushed off screen.

The changing of the display of fonts, should not be affecting this display.

As Sherry said, Right-click on an empty part of the Desktop and select 
Personalize. Then, select Display down in the bottom left. You'll then get a 
window which says Smaller (100% default), Medium 125%, and Larger 150%. You 
should select Smaller.
