Alan, I changed the preferred wife to the 2nd and it made no difference. I wondered if it might be that he only married the first, but when I checked the only one which he didn't marry was the 4th.
I am rather reluctant to say it is a bug, as I have not used this function, so I do not know exactly how it should work or what I might expect. I haven't the time at the moment to go into it in detail, which would involve working through the help files and testing all the options until I am really familiar with the function. I changed the spouse to preferred and it displayed with the correct surname. Can you try the same to see whether switching preferences on the spouse rectifies the problem? Let me know what happens and I will report it as a bug. However, I do not think it is relating to the preferred setting as I have his current partner (the 4th) set as the preferred. The problem appears to be that the Knight marriage was set to preferred??? I though that preferred was to do with how you prgress through a pedegree tree and how you define your direct line. The surname by which a married woman is known should be by latest marriage date? I think this is a bug!
