If you have big gaps in RINs or MRINs, you would need to go to Tools > Renumber RINs to compact the file, effectively removing the unused space. This is probably what Michele is referring to..
File > FIle Maintenance > Check/Repair or Compact Famly File don't affect the RINs or MRINs.
