Some time ago I put in a suggestion to add a button to the source list. This button would replace all occurrences of the highlighted source with the one in the source clipboard, for the current person only. Maybe you have 3 items for this person sourced with one census source.
The idea was for changing an old-style source to a SW source. You would set up the new version in the clipboard, highlight any one of the old ones and click the button An extension would be to highlight one source, click a different new button and that would replace all occurrences of the highlighted source for all people, provided the source detail exactly matched the detail in the highlighted one. I've not heard whether this is anywhere near the pipeline, yet but, if you like the idea, let them know.
