I agree with you wholeheartedly about your assessment of today’s webinar. I have completed my requirements for my certification at the National Institute of Genealogical Studies here in Canada and was looking for more wisdom on transitioning from a Hobbyist to a Professional. Obviously a lot of what was talked about from a business perspective did not interest me for two reasons: 1. I’m in Canada and everything was based on US requirements (there were only a few similarities) and 2. I am an accountant too so I know what is required business-wise. This webinar was not up to the usual standards of Legacy’s previous ones I’ve attended! Sorry, Geoff!! Linda J. I had mixed feelings about today's webinar. The material was covered too fast for me to take notes (which is one way I learn) -- but I will get the information when I watch it again later. But it also felt a little bit unprofessional, ironically. They didn't explain each slide... well, one in particular I didn't know what the columns or rows had to do with each other, and they didn't verbally introduce the slide at all, then bounced around the items on the screen. (I'll try to figure that out later.) In the end, though, I was excited about the possibility of moving toward "professional" in my genealogy journey. So, I felt I was ready enough to take the next baby step and look at the two websites for accreditation/certification. I selected ICAPGen.org first. Sure, the layout looks simple, but they don't really explain things for a beginner. I felt I had to infer a lot... like, you get accredited for a region, because the first thing they show you on the website is maps of the regions. Trying to keep this short... The description of the process to get accredited is VERY wordy and NOT straightforward. There is no flow chart, for example. Then I opened the application form and saw there are 1000 hours of education/experience required.... which was not listed in the description of the process. I don't know where to start. SO........ I think a webinar on how to get accredited "for dummies" would be great. I haven't looked at the BCG website yet, but I would think there would be two webinars - one for each process/organization. Or maybe one webinar split between the two and kept at the really high level. I especially did not like how the presenter today avoided answering the question about what the difference is between the two processes. I think she should've been able to describe them at a high level at least, professionally & without partiality (if that's what she was worried about). She left it to us to "read the websites" which you know by now I don't think is very easy to do. Okay, perhaps I'm rambling now. It's just that I was so excited, but within the first 5 minutes of looking at that website, I was disheartened.
