Thanks, Michele. I was just trying to compare & contrast the two processes, and was frustrated at what I found (or didn't) at the ICAPGen website. I knew about the videos, but didn't want that much detail / couldn't spend that much time as a first step. I have checked the BCG website and found information at a better level. It gave me an idea of the amount of time required after just two clicks.
And I have been keeping track of your posts regarding mismatches between what Legacy can do and what certification requires in the area of source citations. ;) I am also going to pursue training now offered online by the DAR this year. Perhaps it could count toward the 1000 hours? ;) And I think it was more than just a shared headset; it sounded like they had not practiced or something. --Paula ________________________________ From: Michele Lewis <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Wed, April 4, 2012 5:13:41 PM Subject: RE: [LegacyUG] Reminder - Webinar Wednesday One thing I will say about ICAPGen, watch the mentoring videos! They explain the entire process VERY well. I agree with you that their website doesn’t go into much detail but trust me, the videos do. On the video that explains how to fill out the application step by step, they tell you exactly where to find those 1000 hours J The BCG has an application manual and a standards manual that explains their process in depth. I turned in my portfolio for the BCG in Feb. I am just waiting to hear. If I passed, I will then work on the AG because the AG requirements are quite different. Even though I am an experienced researcher, I learned a lot going through the BCG process and I expect I will learn even more going through the ICAPGen process. One interesting thing (and this relates directly to Legacy), when you do the BCG portfolio you will not be able to print out Legacy reports to use. They will never meet the criteria for a BCG report. You have to hand type all of the components (but like I said, I learned a lot doing so). You can do quite a bit of copying and pasting. That is why I had to make sure all my sources were formatted correctly in Legacy so that I could just copy and paste them as needed. With ICAPGen it is a little different. You will be able to use Legacy to print out the pedigree chart, family group sheets and research calendar but you will most likely will have to hand type the report that goes with it though. (The BCG portfolio doesn’t include pedigree charts, family group sheets or a research calendar). Part of the problem with the Webinar was the two speakers having to share one headset.
