Yes, Jan, I have all that. I think the problem is that the "view 1/2" and child status and relationship-to-parent don't all work well together--or at least seem to not work well together to show what I would like to show.
For example, the "1/2" showed next to the step children before/until I linked them to the step-father and entered "Step" in their relationship-to-father field for that marriage (the wife's second marriage). For example, the relationship-to-father "Step" cannot be displayed in the children list, only the child status can be. For example, if I enter "Stepchild" as a child status, it shows up without indicating stepchild to which parent, so I have to put the less generic "Stepchild of father" in the child status (and decide do I really want to see all that on the screen, in reports, etc---could make it "private" but then why enter it in the first place, etc). This is not a huge deal to me---it does not occur often---so I'll just leave it with nothing special showing in the children list and "Step" in the relationship-to-father if I right-click on either child and view the children's settings, and turn off the printing of it if it seems inappropriate to show in a given report (depends on audience). Thanks all! --Paula ________________________________ From:Jan Roberts <[email protected]> To:[email protected] Sent: Fri, April 27, 2012 12:58:18 AM Subject: RE: [LegacyUG] Viewing step children If you link a child to two families, although the child is recorded only once, but shows up in two families, you can set the child status, and child relationship to parents independently for each family. For example, in Family View showing my husband and self, my step-daughter’s ‘status’ is Step-daughter of Jan (I created that label – a more generic label could be step-daughter of wife), her relationship to father is biological, her relationship to mother is step. But if I view her in the marriage of my husband and his first wife all labels are blank because she is the biological daughter of both of them and I haven’t set labels. On the Family View in ‘our’ marriage she shows as step-daughter of Jan, on her biological parents’ Family View just her name and birth year are listed.
