Sorry I misspoke. In some cases I do put a description of what a file is, such as
0017-1786 baptism, John Beeken because there might be several children in that folder that need to be distinguished one from the other. It's not strictly necessary because the names are in the IPTC as well. For anyone needing to quickly rename files for web pages; taking out spaces, turning uppercase to lowercase, etc there's a free program called Bulk Rename Utility. http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Download.php. ---- JL | http://www.jgen.ws/jlog/ On 6/8/2012 12:34 PM, JLB wrote: > I do similarly except using the MRIN at the beginning of the name, then > a date, then a number. > > eg. 0037-1890-01 > > and then _e for edits, or _s for resized, or both _es, es2, etc. > > So, a file-name might look like 0037-1890-01_e.tif > > I don't put any names or other identifying information in the file-names > because it's all in the IPTC, some of which can be seen in Windows > 'Detail View' under various columns or at the bottom of the screen in > Windows 7.
