I never suggest disabling the Firewall, just altering your permissions to allow that program. Google and some other programs have nothing to do with it, no doubt they already have permission - they do with most.
I tried Norton years ago, hated it because of the fuss necessary to install a number of programs, so I dumped it. Then I tried Zone Alarm, until they ruined that program with one update. I now only use the Windows preinstalled Firewall, which I think is still called Defender, and have had absolutely no problems since. I use AVG Free for my AV program. Now, if *I* authorise any program to access the internet it will allow it. Agreed one should never knocked down a software firewall under any circustances but it is possible to do so if you have a router with a hardware firewall and connect to the internet via the router. I work behind both a router with hardware firewall and a software firewall. -- Charani (UK) OPC for Walton, Ashcott, Shapwick, Greinton and Clutton, SOM http://wsom-opc.org.uk Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com).
