What no one seems to have mentioned about the Geo*.txt and Geo*-alt.txt files is that those files only apply if you use the GeoDb to pick your location names. To use the GeoDb click on the globe icon on the screen (location of the icon depends on where you are editing/picking your locations). If you have properly edited the .txt file then the GeoDb should display your selected value for the United States in the lines where you select the location name.
By the way, when I started to answer this I looked for the appropriate Help Topic where the use of the Geo*.txt files is explained. I could not find one so I have input a problem report to have the Help file modified to explain the use of the Geo.txt files when using the GeoDb.
