A word of caution. Federal censuses are generally available and always in the same format. That is not necessarily true with state censuses. For example, if I use the version of the Wisconsin census at the State Historical Society, it is the original. If I use the version at the Family History Library, it is the copy sent to the feds. The information is the same, but the page, line etc may be different.
BTW I agree that for federal censuses, identifying the library or website is not necessary, but it doesn't hurt anything. Most of my census sources were done 10 to 20 years ago. (Since I am a splitter, there are thousands.) I couldn't go back now and identify the library if I wanted to. But if the indexing on Ancestry is blocking my locating the record again, I can browse and go right to it with the information in my source.
