Thanks, Jenny, and others.  I had somewhat figured out that it had something
to do with pictures but didn't know about the addresses.

That does bring up another question - at what point does the + then
disappear; do I only have to remove the picture to make it disappear or do I
have to save to make it disappear or does it only disappear after I have
closed down the program?

If you press F1 from any screen you will get the Help page relevant to that
screen.  In this case, if you scroll down the Help page you will find
information about the Events/Facts section of the screen and it describes
the several columns.  It tells you that the last one shows a + when you have
added a picture or an address to an Event.
