Before you let your own personal views and prejudices override the actions of the vicar, you should look up the historical use of the word harlot. Who knows perhaps the vicar may have entered exactly what he was told by your great aunt. And the use of the word harlot was probably a lot less demeaning during those times that other possible words. As I've said before, "genealogy is full of surprises".

Some time ago, I found in the parish register, my great aunt who baptised her two illegitimate children who were born 12 years apart. I was horrified to see that the vicar had recorded occupation as, "A harlot", because this was official records I still recorded it as an occupation and put some notes alongside. <snip> Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com).
