I've been meaning to ask Ancestry that myself, because I have corrections and additions that I've lost track of, so I finally did. They only "sync" with the program that they sell.
Not sure if there are regular trees and dna trees and different rules, but I uploaded my gedcom to match my dna test. They said to follow/search the links and you can delete and re-upload, though they suggested I don't. Logging into my dna homepage, "Tree Pages" Dna tree settings page has the option to delete [with a Warning notice], unlink or change the tree your test is linked to. I chose to upload a limited gedcom of my ancestry, rather than all the distant cousins I brought forward to present day. Btw, 23andme.com gives much more complete dna results than Ancestry for the same $99. I did both to cover both of their databases.
