The speed of search and replace is highly dependent on the type of
processor you have.
If it's too slow I suggest you upgrade your machine.
I can do a Search and Replace on 220,000 persons in LESS than 1 minute
which i think is excellent.
I also do not ever remember the one step process you list.
It has always searched until it finds the first instance, displays that,
and allows to to continue to replace them one by one, OR replace all, which
then scans the rest of the file.
