Conversely Anna could be a short name for Joanna. Part of the reason it's always bad to assume .. look for evidence. (Also, its one of the reasons I wouldn't synch to Ancestry ... so many of the entries on there are just assumed or from hearsay without evidence and a surprising number just downright wrong.
