You almost have it done. Last step is to add the "Relationship to Father" and/or "Relationship to Mother" status for the adoptions. That is done under "Children Settings" which you find by right clicking on the children in Family tab. Leave the status blank means same as setting it to biological. You may have other combinations of multiple parents. Each one can have a different relationship status as needed. Ron Taylor

Here is a problem that I have and would like comments as to how to handle adopted children. Here is my scenario; 1. Family 1 - Father - A (Coles) and Mother B (Phillips) have 4 children: C, D, E, F - all with last name of Coles 2. Family 1 has a divorce. 3. Mother B marries again with husband G - Last name Lane. 4. Family 2 - Father G and Mother B The father (Lane) formally adopts the children C, D, E, & F and they all take on his last name of Lane. Now it is true the true blood relationship of the children C, D, E & F are of the Coles family line. I have them shown as children of family 1 (Coles). I also want to show them as children of family 2 (Lane family) with a new last name of Lane. Here is what I have done: 1. I have given the children the following last names: C. Coles-Lane, D. Coles-Lane, E. Coles-Lane, F. Coles-Lane. 2. I have attached all 4 children to both Family 1 and Family 2 with the dual last names. Legacy lets me do this, but doesn't really like it. Any suggestions?? My goal is to show the children as being in both families since they are adopted. Maybe I am too optimistic to be able to do this? ___ Leon Chapman [email protected] ----- Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com).
