I don't think you have to have a gmail address to use YouTube (but I have been with gmail and Google+ for so long I don't recall). Our LVUG Community is on Google+ due to ease of use and the ability to automatically record our on-air hangouts (for free).
DearMyrtle hosts her Mondays with Myrt on Google+ and there are lots of genealogy communities, included the Guild of One-Name Studies. I am sorry if you are unable to see the LVUG Community if you are not signed up with a gmail account. I know for many it is one more site, but as private individuals (volunteers) we have found it a great way to interact and have a free broadcast studio for our meetings. All the best.
