You can always sign up for a gmail address. You don't have to actually use it if you don't want to, but it will get you access to Google+, and if and when you get a smart phone or tablet (if you don't already have one or the other) you might need it for the Google Play store. I don't know for sure. Just a suggestion for whatever it's worth.
