Actually GEDCOM X is ONLY being developed by Family Search. It is NOT an industry standard. The rest of the industry (for the most part) appears to be working with FHISO ( http://fhiso.org/ ) to develop a standard that a GEDCOM replacement can be based on. It is my hope that Family Search drops their lone wolf approach and works with the rest of the industry.

I see no other way to improve the situation that has been described. I hope all commercial vendors like Legacy do all they can to promote, encourage and help in this effort.
