Actually GEDCOM X is ONLY being developed by Family Search. It is NOT an
industry standard. The rest of the industry (for the most part) appears to be
working with FHISO ( http://fhiso.org/ ) to develop a standard that a GEDCOM
replacement can be based on.  It is my hope that Family Search drops their lone
wolf approach and works with the rest of the industry.

In the long run, gedcom x is being developed.   I see no other way to
improve the situation that has been described. I hope all commercial
vendors like Legacy do all they can to promote, encourage and help in
this effort. See link.
