I guess that leads me to one further question. Why would I want to have 7.5 and 
8.0 installed on my computer?

Yes, you can run both versions on the same computer.  It is best to let both 
versions install to their default locations (they are different).  Each will 
have to have its own database file because Legacy 8 will convert a 7.5 file and 
then it won’t be usable in 7.5 anymore.  It is best to have the two databases 
in separate locations (again, the default locations are the best) and I would 
name them different names so that you don’t get confused.  MicheleTechnical
