They provide the free version for those who cannot afford expensive software. They respond to our pleas for help. And I feel they should be paid for their efforts.
Other programs update more often, and at higher prices. We get continual free updates. The price for the upgrade is about like taking your family to McDonalds. I think that years of excellent software is worth more than McDonalds. I could probably come up with more reasons. So, although my resources are limited, and I don't go to McDonalds, I do upgrade each time it is available.
