The placement of Legacy in the "C:\Program Files (x86)" folder and other settings make Legacy Windows Compliant and takes advantage of the Windows coding. This also allows each user, with a different user account on the same machine to have control of their "Options" when they are using their account on their data files.
The moving to the data to another drive can and may cause problems. This trick has been around since the Windows 98 (if not 95) days and has NOT always worked even for the experts. Yes, when programs are install in the "C:\Program Files (x86)" folder, then the normal user cannot tweek the program, and MOST program OEM's do not support the tweeking of these files. Those that you can tweek, are in the "_appdata" area for each user. The reason Millennia said to install Legacy 7.5 and earlier in the root of the C: drive, was to get around the security facilities that Microsoft introduced in Vista. Whoever said that it would run better, doesn't know what they're talking about. It's a fallacy that installing the program in the root of the C: drive will make it run better. All this does is circumvent UAC that is present on Vista and later and make it easier for the program directory to be corrupted. Anything installed below C:\Program Files needs administrative rights before it can be tampered with. -- Regards, Mike Fry Johannesburg (g) Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com).
