Oddly I don't have this problem. A single click on any name in the
family view puts them into focus (husband or wife, or whatever words you
are using) and then a click on the Pedigree Tab gets them into the root
of the pedigree view. Ditto right-click always brings up the pop-up menu.

However, I had a similar problem in 7.5 and it turned out to be caused
by a windows utility I was using to control my dual monitors!!
